Dr. Mo Snyder is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Science at Acadia University. Their research focuses on soft-sediment deformation, salt tectonics, geoscience education, and accessibility in Earth Science. Snyder holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Alberta (2019) and a BSc in Paleontology (2010), both from the same institution.
Research interests include field mapping techniques, sedimentological processes, and paleontological studies. Recent work explores innovative approaches to fieldwork culture and environmental contamination in Nova Scotia's geology. Snyder is actively involved in geoscience education initiatives, aiming to improve accessibility and inclusivity in field-based studies.
Publications span structural geology, sedimentology, and geoscience education, with notable contributions to understanding evaporite deformation in tectonically active basins. They co-authored field guides on salt tectonics and structural geology, emphasizing practical applications. Snyder serves on the Atlantic Geoscience Society Education Committee and the Joggins Fossil Cliffs Science Advisory Committee.
Current projects include supervising Honours students in soft rock geology, salt tectonics, and EDIAAR (equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, anti-racism) in geoscience. The Acadia Petrographic Laboratory and field courses are key components of their teaching and research infrastructure.
