Dr. Mitch Ferguson serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychology in the Division of Social Sciences at Life University, where he has been an integral part of the academic community for the past 12 years. With over 30 years of teaching experience in psychology, Dr. Ferguson brings extensive expertise to his role and embodies the supportive, family-like atmosphere that characterizes Life University.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree from Auburn University
- Master's degree from University of South Alabama
- Doctorate from University of West Florida in Pensacola
Dr. Ferguson's research interests span multiple areas within psychology, with particular focus on mental health applications, student engagement strategies, and the intersection of film and psychological concepts. His innovative approach to teaching is evident in his creation of the Psychology Film Club, which uses cinematic works to explore psychological principles in an engaging format.
Dr. Ferguson transitioned to academia after working as a clinician in mental health, bringing practical experience to his teaching. He began his journey at Life University as an adjunct professor before securing a full-time advisor position in 2016, and then transitioning to a full-time faculty role by the Fall Quarter of 2017. His student-centric philosophy emphasizes that faculty exist to serve students, which guides his approach to academic support and mentorship.
Dr. Ferguson co-founded the Psychology Film Club with colleagues Dr. Deidre Meiggs and Dr. Stephanie Wakefield, selecting films from their respective areas of expertise to create unique learning experiences that blend education with entertainment. This initiative exemplifies his commitment to innovative teaching methods and student engagement beyond traditional classroom settings.
