Miroslava Prazak is a Professor of Anthropology and African Studies at Bennington College, where she has taught since 1996. Her research focuses on globalization, inequality, gender-based violence, and cultural change in East Africa, employing multidisciplinary strategies. She holds a BA from Smith College, an MPhil and PhD from Yale University, and completed postdoctoral work at the Australian National University.
Her scholarly contributions include the monograph Making the Mark: Gender, Identity, and Genital Cutting (2016) and chapters in volumes such as African Families at the Turn of the 21st Century. Her work has been published in journals like Africa Today and African Studies Review, and has been supported by grants from the Mellon Foundation, NSF, ACLS, SSRC, and Wenner-Gren Foundation. She has also taught at Yale University, Australian National University, the University of Nairobi, Williams College, and the Community College of Vermont.
Prazak’s research integrates anthropological theory with critical analyses of gender, age hierarchies, and the politics of the body, emphasizing culturally grounded perspectives on development and social change.
