Mirko Farina is a Professor at Innopolis University (Kazan). He presented a talk at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) Center for Artificial Intelligence's seminar titled "Artificial Intelligence in the World of People: Humanistic, Ethical, and Legal Aspects of the Development of Digital Technologies." His work focuses on reconciling philosophical debates about cognition with ethical and social implications of technological advancement.
Research interests include the Extended Mind Thesis (EMT), posthumanism, transhumanism, and the ethical ramifications of human-technology symbiosis. His arguments emphasize abandoning metaphysical constraints in favor of pragmatic, socially beneficial frameworks for understanding cognition.
The seminar explored how tools and technology extend human cognition, drawing on historical philosophical traditions (e.g., Bergson, Arendt, Eco) and modern thinkers like Andy Clark and Steve Fuller. Farina advocated for a "moderate posthumanism" that positions EMT as a means to counter discrimination and promote inclusivity through technological hybridization.
