Miriam Waltz is an Assistant Professor in gender justice and health technologies at Leiden University, with a joint appointment between the Institute for Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology and the African Studies Centre. Her research focuses on interdisciplinary health technologies in Africa, pesticide use in Western Kenya, and perinatal healthcare in South Africa.
Education:
- BA in Anthropology and Development Studies, University College Utrecht (2012)
- Honours and MA in Social Anthropology, University of Cape Town (2013–2015)
- Joint PhD in Anthropology (Aarhus University & University of Oslo, 2022)
Research Interests:
- Examines pesticide use among smallholder farmers in Kenya, exploring socio-ecological dynamics and non-human entanglements.
- Investigates perinatal health care navigation and technological interventions in Cape Town.
- Explores multispecies ethnography and science-policy interfaces in African contexts.
