Miriam Pettersson is a Pediatrician and Neonatologist serving as an Affiliated Researcher at Örebro University's Faculty of Medicine and Health, School of Medical Sciences. She concurrently practices as Medical Manager for the Neonatal Unit at Örebro University Hospital. She earned her doctoral degree in 2021 with a dissertation titled 'Routine procedures in the care of the full-term newborn'.
Her research focuses on neonatal care with two primary domains: (1) pain management during medical procedures (particularly hip examinations and retinopathy screenings), investigating both neurophysiological responses and analgesic interventions; and (2) neonatal hyperbilirubinemia management, specializing in home phototherapy protocols, cost-effectiveness analyses, and parental experience impacts. Her work bridges clinical practice with healthcare system innovation.
Publications predominantly explore neonatal pain assessment methodologies and phototherapy innovations. Recent work (2022-2025) shows strong emphasis on home-based interventions, parental bonding outcomes, and economic evaluations of neonatal care models. Earlier foundational research (2019) established pain measurement protocols during routine examinations.
