Mireille McLaughlin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociological and Anthropological Studies at the University of Ottawa. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology and Studies of Equity in Education from the University of Toronto (2010), a postdoctoral fellowship from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (2010), and prior degrees from the Université de Moncton and Université Paul Valéry. Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, linguistic equality, minority francophone communities, and transformations of the nation-state in Canada. She currently teaches courses such as SOC7105 (Francophonie, langues et pouvoir) and SOC 2708 (Sociologie des communautés francophones minoritaires du Canada).
Her research explores how language intersects with social inequality, labor markets, and anti-racism frameworks. Recent publications include work on raciolinguistic ideologies in Canada and decolonizing approaches to francophone identity. She supervises multiple graduate students and collaborates with researchers like Luc Léger and Émilie Urbain on projects addressing linguistic value and market dynamics.
Office hours are held by appointment on Wednesdays 1:00–3:00 PM in Room 10 005C, Social Science Building.
