Dr. Miracle Israel Nazarious is a Research Fellow at the Department of Planetary Sciences, School of Geosciences, University of Aberdeen. His multidisciplinary work spans planetary exploration technology, astrobiology, and environmental science, focusing on missions to Mars and Ocean Worlds. He leads the Astrobiology Laboratory (Meston 119) and contributes to instrument development, calibration campaigns for ESA/IKI HABIT/ExoMars, and Mars simulation chamber projects.
- Education:
- BSc in Aeronautical Engineering (India, 2013)
- Dual MSc in Space Technology and Instrumentation (Sweden and France, 2016)
- PhD in Atmospheric Science (Sweden, 2020)
His research integrates hardware/software development for planetary exploration (e.g., APLS, SAM, Metabolt) and Earth Observation satellites for water stress modeling in Chennai. He emphasizes planetary protection protocols, microbial life detection, and sustainable deep-space mission design.
Recent publications highlight his leadership in:
- 2024: BioMoon mission concept for lunar astrobiology
- 2024: APLS autonomous sampling system
- 2023: SAM biochemical monitoring instrument
- 2022: Earth Observation water stress modeling
- 2021: Martian brine conductivity studies
- 2020: HABIT instrument calibration for ExoMars
Dr. Nazarious also engages in educational outreach through the Metabolt Educational Experience and teaches courses like Sustainable Deep Space Exploration and Planetary Protection (GL5564).
