Dr. Mira Kanzelberger is a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Chemistry, Engineering, and Physics at Franciscan University of Steubenville. She collaborates with Dr. Jeffrey Rohde on research in synthetic organic chemistry supporting FISH and FIWH initiatives, focusing on medicinal chemistry for neglected diseases and pharmaceutical small molecule synthesis. She teaches organic chemistry lab courses and mentors students in hands-on research.
Education: Ph.D. in Organometallic Chemistry from Rutgers University (2004) and B.S. in Chemistry from California Institute of Technology (1987). Prior to Franciscan, she worked in medicinal chemistry in the pharmaceutical industry and taught at Shoreline Community College, WA.
Research interests include organometallic catalysis, C-H bond activation, and drug discovery. Her work bridges academic and industrial approaches to address unmet medical needs through small molecule synthesis.
Collaborations and advising: Active in student research mentorship, though specific grant details are not provided. Her lab focuses on practical applications of organic synthesis for pharmaceutical development.
