Dr. Mingyuan Chen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nanoscience and Biomedical Engineering at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Physics from Tongji University and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from Auburn University. His postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan focused on organic materials, OLEDs, and Fourier optics under Stephen Forrest's guidance.
His research expertise spans two-dimensional materials, nanophotonics, near-field optics, and optoelectronic devices. The Nano-Optics and Devices Lab he leads develops nanoscale light manipulation and quantum technologies using advanced near-field nano-imaging and spectroscopy. Current openings exist for PhD students starting in 2025.
Dr. Chen's work emphasizes light-matter interactions, energy harvesting, and quantum technologies. His publications in Nature Materials, Nano Letters, and other journals reflect contributions to photonics, quantum optics, and material science. He teaches Quantum Materials and Nanophotonics courses. Contact: Mingyuan.Chen@sdsmt.edu.
