Dr. Mina Akhavan is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research Fellow at TU Delft’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, focusing on the RePortFlows project examining port-city ecosystems. She holds a PhD in Spatial Planning from Politecnico di Milano (2015), a Master’s in New Waterfronts (2011), and a Bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering (2007). Prior to TU Delft, she was an Adjunct Professor and Postdoc Researcher at PoliMi, leading projects on maritime logistics, urban sustainability, and aging populations.
Her research interests span port-city dynamics, urban planning, mobility, gender equality in maritime industries, and the 15-minute city model. She has led international collaborations like the EU-funded COST Action on new working spaces and contributed to initiatives such as the Leiden Delft Erasmus PortCityFutures program. Awards include the MSCA Fellowship (2022) and recognition for best academic work in transport economics and poster presentations.
Key projects include MOBILAGE (mobility and aging networks) and HAPPY (elderly transport policies). She co-edited volumes on remote work and authored Port Infrastructure Developments and Port-City Interface Dynamics. Her work aligns with UN SDGs related to sustainable cities and communities, gender equality, and climate action.
