Dr. Min Xu is an Associate Professor in the Computational Biology Department at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science. He holds courtesy appointments in the Robotics Institute and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Additionally, he serves as training faculty in the Joint CMU-Pitt Ph.D. Program in Computational Biology, co-director of the Master of Science in Computational Biology (MSCB) program, and training faculty in the Master of Science in Computer Vision (MSCV) program. He is affiliated with the National Center for Multiscale Modeling of Biological Systems and the Computer Vision Department at the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in the UAE.
Education:
- B.E. in Computer Science, Beihang University
- M.Sc., School of Computing, National University of Singapore
- M.A. in Applied Mathematics, University of Southern California (USC)
- Ph.D. in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, USC
- Postdoctoral Researcher, USC
Dr. Xu's research focuses on developing computer vision and machine learning methods to analyze cellular systems using imaging and omics data. His work spans structural pattern mining for Cryo-ET 3D image data, enabling de novo extraction of macromolecular complexes and their spatial organizations in single cells. Current projects emphasize molecular-resolution modeling of cellular organization derived from Cryo-ET data.

- Published in top-tier venues: PNAS, Structure, ISMB, CVPR, NeurIPS, MICCAI
- Principal Investigator (PI) for NIH R01 and NSF grants
- Recipient of NSF CAREER award (2023)
