Miloš Jovanović is an Assistant Professor of History at UCLA, specializing in urban studies and imperial history. His work focuses on the Balkans, Ottoman and Habsburg Empires, capitalism, Marxist theory, and visual methodologies. He explores urban transformation's social impacts through projects like Cities of Dust and Mud, analyzing Belgrade and Sofia's post-Ottoman changes. Recent research examines how imperial histories shape contemporary urban spaces in former Habsburg territories.
Education: Ph.D. in History from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2016); M.A. in Central European University (2008). Teaching includes courses on Eastern European history, urban history, and Western Civilization surveys. Collaborations include MPI's Empires of Memory Research Group, resulting in publications like Sharpening the Haze.
