Miles Tendi is an Associate Professor of the Politics of Africa at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR) and the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies (OSGA). He previously held a Departmental Lectureship in African Politics at the Oxford Department of International Development (QEH) from 2011 to 2017.

Research Interests: Tendi focuses on Civil-Military Relations, Gender and Politics, Intelligence Studies, and Southern African Politics, with a particular emphasis on Zimbabwe, Botswana, Madagascar, Lesotho, and the Kingdom of Eswatini. His work explores the intersection of Biography, Intellectuals and Politics, and the Existence and Use of 'Evil' in Politics.
Publications: His research spans military coups, liberation armies, electoral processes, and political ideology in Southern Africa. Recent works include analyses of Zimbabwe’s 2017 military coup and the 1974-1975 Nhari Mutiny, reflecting his expertise in Postcolonial Politics and Political Instability.
Students: Tendi has advised students such as Kamissa Camara.
