Milena Svec Götschi serves as Head of Communications at the Careum University of Applied Sciences for Health since January 2020, while simultaneously maintaining an academic role as a lecturer in Scientific Writing for Nursing Bachelor's and Master's programs since 2017. Previously, she was responsible for scientific communication at Careum Research (which transitioned to become Careum University of Applied Sciences for Health in 2019) from April 2016.
Her academic background includes doctoral studies at the University of Zurich's Department of History, where she earned her doctorate with a dissertation on escaped monks and nuns in the late Middle Ages (Klosterflucht und Bittgang) published in 2015. Prior to her communications career, she worked for many years as an assistant and later as a research associate in e-learning at the University of Zurich's Department of History, where she also taught academic writing techniques and conducted the 'Writing Workshop for Doctoral Students.'
Dr. Svec Götschi's research focuses on medieval monasticism, particularly examining apostasy and religious mobility in the 15th century through analysis of papal penitentiary records and local archives. Her scholarly work demonstrates particular expertise in the Apostolic Penitentiary, Vatican archives, and the social dynamics of late medieval religious communities. She has published extensively on the subject of monastic runaways, benefice acquisition in collegiate churches, and ecclesiastical conflict resolution.
Her publications reveal a consistent scholarly trajectory examining the intersection of religious norms and deviant behavior in late medieval Europe, with particular attention to the mechanisms of papal dispensation and local implementation of church discipline. Her work bridges historical analysis with documentation methodology, often comparing central curial records with local implementation in diocesan contexts.
As Head of Communications, she combines her academic background in history with practical communication expertise, having also worked for several years in PR/communications/organization prior to joining Careum. Her unique position bridges academic scholarship with institutional communications in the health education sector.
