Milena Angelova

Milena Angelova serves as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at New Bulgarian University with two decades of teaching experience. Her research specializes in:

• Historical-anthropological analysis of memory policies in communist Bulgaria
• History of public health systems and tuberculosis in early 20th century Bulgaria
• Rural modernization projects post-World War I
• Ethno-confessional dynamics in Caucasus regions (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan)
• Gender studies through women's archival materials

Dr. Angelova has authored four major monographs including 'The Social Disease: Tuberculosis in Bulgaria in the First Half of the 20th Century' (2021) and 'Model Village: The Modernization Project for the Village in Bulgaria, 1937–1944' (2008). As editorial board member of 'Balkanist Forum', she curated eight thematic journal issues covering Balkan childhood studies, Russo-Ottoman War memory, health policy metaphors, and rural modernity. Current teaching includes Medical Anthropology (APLB020), Cultural Heritage and International Policies (APLB025), and Anthropological Readings seminars.
