Milad Gazanfari is a graduate student in genetic counseling at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine and the Department of Human Genetics. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Physiological Science from UCLA in 2021, where he served as an undergraduate assistant for anatomy and a mentor through UCLA's Transfer Mentor Program.
Milad's research spans multiple disciplines. At Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, he studied mental and physical health disparities in underinsured populations during postoperative recovery and co-led an AI medical coding project using GaleAI to assess CPT code assignment accuracy. At Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), he investigated mitochondrial disease treatments and the BH4 metabolic pathway, presenting findings at CHOC and UCI conferences. His work intersects genetics, AI applications, and health equity.
Milad is committed to advocating for individuals affected by genetic conditions and continues to engage with diverse communities at UCLA. Outside academia, he enjoys tennis, soccer, and family time.
