Miklos Sukosd

Miklos Sukosd is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Humanities. Previously, he served as Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong's Journalism and Media Studies Centre and as Academic Director and Associate Professor of Political Science at Central European University's Center for Media and Communication Studies. His expertise spans media research, sociology, and political science with regional focus on Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and China.

His academic credentials include an MA in Sociology from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Professor Sukosd's research centers on political communication, media policy, and media politics, with specialization in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia, and China. He investigates media systems, environmental communication, censorship, and populism's impact on media freedom. Current projects examine historical and contemporary challenges to media pluralism in Europe and right-wing populist communication strategies.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals dominant themes: Hungarian media under Orbán analyzing populist rhetoric of victimization and securitization, historical censorship contexts including Kádár-era Chernobyl crisis communication, and broader explorations of samizdat culture and gender in media studies.

His distinguished scientific awards include:

Professor Sukosd co-convenes the "Media and Communications in Transition Societies" research priority area at Copenhagen, co-directs the "European Culture and the Media" group at CEMES, and organizes international conferences on censorship, media freedom, and European integration challenges.
