Mikko Saikku

Mikko Saikku is a Professor at the University of Helsinki, holding the McDonnell Douglas Professorship of American Studies within the Department of Cultures at the Faculty of Arts. He serves as Director of the Environmental Humanities Hub and is affiliated with multiple research organizations including the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science and Helsinki Institute of Urban and Regional Studies (Urbaria). Saikku also supervises doctoral students in the Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Change and the Doctoral Programme in Gender, Culture, and Society, and holds the title of Docent in Faculty Common Matters.

His research focuses on North American Studies, Environmental History, and Southern Studies, with particular emphasis on the intersections between American cultural history and environmental perspectives.
