Mikkel Bring Christensen

Mikkel Bring Christensen is a Clinical Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Copenhagen and Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology at Copenhagen University Hospital - Bispebjerg og Frederiksberg. He holds a dual appointment, being employed by both the Capital Region of Denmark and the University of Copenhagen.

His educational background includes a PhD in health science from the University of Copenhagen and specialization in Clinical Pharmacology from The Danish National Board of Health. His research primarily focuses on clinical metabolism, toxicology, and pharmacology. Since 2008, he has contributed significantly to understanding gut hormones and peptide-based therapeutics related to diabetes, postprandial metabolism, appetite regulation, and glucose and bone homeostasis. His work led to patent WO2016034186A1, currently explored by Antag Therapeutics for obesity treatment. Since 2013, his research on medication overdoses has directly affected clinical guidelines for poisoned patients.

In 2016, he initiated the Polypharmacy Outpatient Clinic as a pragmatic intervention that successfully reduced medication use while improving survival and quality of life. His current research promotes rational pharmacotherapy for patients with overdoses, chronic metabolic diseases, and multimorbidity. His recent publications demonstrate expertise across multiple domains including endocrinology, diabetes research, bone metabolism, and pharmacology, with key themes around gut hormones (GIP, GLP-1, GLP-2), glucagon metabolism, medication safety, and polypharmacy management.
