Professor Mikhail Goman is a Professor of Dynamics at De Montfort University (DMU), affiliated with the School of Engineering and Sustainable Development under the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Media. His research focuses on nonlinear flight dynamics, aerodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). He leads the Nonlinear Flight Dynamics Research Group (NFD) and contributes to the Centre for Engineering Science and Advanced Systems (CESAS). His work emphasizes aircraft stability, post-stall dynamics, wake vortex encounters, and ground effect aerodynamics. Professor Goman’s research integrates experimental wind tunnel testing with advanced CFD simulations, addressing challenges in aviation safety and flight control systems. His publications span topics like wing rock prediction, stall hysteresis modeling, and upset recovery training simulations.
Key research contributions include developing aerodynamic models for extended flight envelopes and investigating critical regimes of high-angle-of-attack flight. He collaborates on projects such as SUPRA (Simulation of Upset Recovery), enhancing flight simulation fidelity for pilot training. His expertise bridges theoretical aerodynamics and practical applications, with a focus on improving aircraft stability and safety through numerical and experimental methods.
