Dr Mike Rogerson is a Lecturer in Operations Management at the University of Sussex. He completed his PhD in Business, Organisations & Society at the University of Bath's School of Management in 2023. His research focuses on modern slavery in business, public sector responses to anti-slavery legislation, and ethical supply chain management. He co-chaired the 2023 Crossing Boundaries: Business and Modern Slavery Research Conference, highlighting his leadership in this field.
Prior to his PhD, Rogerson worked in construction in Qatar, witnessing labor rights issues firsthand, which spurred his academic focus. He holds an MBA and a postgraduate certificate in sustainable value chains from Cambridge University. His doctoral work revealed systemic gaps in public sector procurement practices under the UK Modern Slavery Act, emphasizing the need for stronger legal frameworks and collaborative approaches.
Rogerson advocates for proactive networking in academia, crediting his professional network for career opportunities. He advises PhD students to leverage their supervisors as advisors rather than bosses and to prioritize building interdisciplinary connections early.
