Professor Mike Mösko is a Professor of Clinical Psychology in the Department of Applied Human Sciences at Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, specializing in Rehabilitation Psychology programs (B.Sc. and M.Sc.). He received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg in 2012 and has been a licensed psychological psychotherapist since 2008. Since 2020, he has held his current professorship, and since 2015, he has served as the founder and honorary executive chairman of the non-profit association "SEGEMI Mental Health • Migration and Flight eV" in Hamburg. Since 2009, he has led the Psychosocial Migration Research Working Group (AGPM) at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), Institute and Polyclinic for Medical Psychology.
His educational background includes a Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Hamburg (2012), approval as a psychological psychotherapist specializing in behavioral therapy (2008), and a Diploma in Psychology from Philipps University of Marburg with a focus on Clinical Psychology (2002).
Professor Mösko's research primarily focuses on multilingualism in healthcare, mental health care for migrants and refugees, cross-cultural psychology, and the use of interpreters in healthcare settings. His work addresses language barriers in healthcare, cultural competence, and mental health services for migrants. He has conducted extensive research on interpreter services in mental health care, barriers to healthcare access for migrants, and strategies to improve culturally competent care. His research often involves international collaborations, particularly with South Africa, and addresses both theoretical and practical aspects of providing mental health services in multilingual contexts.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on language barriers in healthcare, with particular attention to technological solutions, interpreter services, and the experiences of migrants in mental health systems. His work spans multiple healthcare settings including outpatient mental health care, diabetes care, and psychiatric hospitals. He has been instrumental in developing quality standards for interpreters in social work settings in Germany.

His current projects include "Multilingualism in providing quality mental health care to migrants - needs, resources and practices" (2022-2026, Volkswagen Foundation) and "Interpreter-mediated Psychotherapy: Interaction and Perception, Process and Outcome" (2023-2026, DFG).
He has initiated and organized numerous specialist conferences on intercultural opening in healthcare, including the nationwide conference "Hamburger Dolmetschpool - a nationwide future model for fairer healthcare" (2025). He has also established the international interdisciplinary research network "Multilingualism in Health Care" (www.irmh.net).
