Mike Kelly is a Visiting Professor in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University of Cambridge and a member of St John’s College. Previously, he served as Director of the Centre for Public Health at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) from 2005 to 2014, where he led national public health guideline development. He has advised the UK House of Commons Health Select Committee, chaired committees for MRC/ESRC and the Food Standards Agency, and directed methodology for WHO's Commission on Social Determinants of Health.
His research examines:
- Structural drivers of health inequalities
- Evidence-to-policy translation frameworks
- Chronic disease prevention strategies
- Behavioural interventions in public health
- Methodological rigor in population health research
He maintains active media engagement, having appeared on BBC, ITV, Sky Television, and BBC Radio 4's Today Programme to discuss public health policy.
