Mike Hardy

Mike Hardy is a Research Fellow at the School of Mathematics and Physics, Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on Raman spectroscopy, chemometrics, and surface-enhanced optical methods, with applications in food quality analysis and nanotechnology.

He completed his PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in December 2019 with a thesis titled "From Fano to nano: Mechanisms and applications of surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy", supervised by Professors Richard Pollard and Maria Arredondo-Arechavala. His work has been published in journals like Analyst, ACS Measurement Science Au, and Chemometrics and Intelligent Laboratory Systems, often involving collaborations with researchers such as H.O.M. Chu and C. T. Elliott.

Research trends highlight his expertise in applying hyperspectral imaging and machine learning for food freshness evaluation (fish, cheese), nanolithography for SERS substrates, and Raman spectroscopy optimization. His work bridges analytical chemistry, materials science, and food authenticity using advanced spectroscopic techniques.
