Mike Chin

Mike Chin is a Professor of Classics at the University of California, Davis. His research bridges late ancient social and intellectual history with explorations of premodern gender, sexuality, and bodily concepts, while examining the intersection of literary cultures, ritual practices, and performing objects in late antiquity.

Chin investigates how late ancient societies imagined their worlds through scientific, artistic, literary, and religious frameworks. His work also explores contemporary techniques like installation art and puppetry to revive historical imaginative experiences.

His publications span late antiquity historiography, early Christian studies, and interdisciplinary analyses of ancient conceptions of the natural and wondrous. Key themes include late ancient cosmology, gendered narratives, and ritual object performance.

Chin currently does not accept graduate students and maintains an active research profile in classical and early Christian studies.
