Mijke van der Drift is a Lecturer and Guest Theorist at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK), where they tutor the Media Theory Lab in the Master Non Linear Narrative (NLN) program. Since 2018, they have served as a thesis and graduation supervisor, and as of 2021, assumed a class coach role for NLN2. Their academic background includes a PhD in Philosophy and Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London, and prior studies at the School for New Dance Development, Amsterdam.
Research Focus: Mijke’s work centers on Nonnormative Ethics, exploring transformative justice in gender and colonial contexts. Current projects address transfeminism, anti-colonial epistemologies, and extractivism. They bridge philosophy with performance, dance, and community theatre, emphasizing practical and creative engagement with theory.
Affiliations: Mijke also lectures at the Royal College of Art (London) and the School for New Dance Development (Amsterdam). Their upcoming book, Nonnormative Ethics: the dynamic of transformation, investigates structural transformations in social and media environments.
Teaching Philosophy: The Media Theory Lab emphasizes critical analysis of media environments and social structures through close readings, discussions, and collaborative interpretations. Mijke’s pedagogy integrates theory with creative practice, fostering competencies in communication and contextual translation.
