Miguel Vatter is Professor of Political Science at Deakin University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences, affiliated with the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the New School for Social Research and has held academic positions internationally.
His current research focuses on Machiavelli, Kant, republicanism, biopolitics, political theology, and the intersections of ecology with political theory. Recent work examines planetary health perspectives on COVID-19 and new materialist approaches to environmental philosophy.
Vatter's publications demonstrate sustained engagement with political theology after Carl Schmitt, Jewish political thought from Cohen to Arendt, and biopolitical critiques of civil society. His scholarly output shows increasing focus on ecological crises and planetary-scale political challenges.
He teaches courses in political philosophy, history of political thought, legal theory, and religion and politics. As PhD supervisor, he guides research on political theology, Aristotelian constitutionalism, and posthumanist philosophy.
