Miguel Garcia

Dr. Miguel Garcia is an Associate Professor at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) on its Miami, FL campus, primarily affiliated with the College of Rehabilitative Sciences. He has been teaching in the DPT Flex program since 2009 and leads neurological courses within the Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum. His academic career also includes roles such as Director of Rehabilitation at West Gables Rehabilitation Hospital, where he oversaw therapy and case management departments, and he currently serves as a program surveyor for CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities).

Dr. Garcia holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) from USAHS, a Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from Florida Gulf Coast University, a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Florida International University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology & Exercise Physiology from the University of Miami.

His research focuses on falls prevention in adult neurological populations, high-intensity functional mobility training for these groups, and patient integration in DPT classroom settings. He is leading a community-based falls prevention study on campus, addressing critical needs in neurological rehabilitation. His clinical expertise spans inpatient, outpatient, and home health settings, with a specialization in neurological disorders such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.

In professional leadership, he has directed rehabilitation programs, managed interdepartmental operations, and spoken at conferences across local, state, and national levels. He also contributes to continuing education initiatives and accreditation processes through his CARF surveyor role.
