Miguel Balzan serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Washington Bothell's School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEPS). With a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and over 15 years of combined academic and industry experience, he bridges theoretical research with practical engineering applications across fluid dynamics and thermal systems.
His educational background includes:

Dr. Balzan's research investigates complex fluid phenomena including effervescent atomization and drop impact dynamics, with direct applications in energy systems and chemical processing. His industrial work at a Texas chemical technologies firm involved designing experimental apparatus and computational modeling to optimize production processes, while prior research at the University of Auckland focused on high-speed fluid dynamics experiments. He maintains active membership in the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
He teaches core mechanical engineering courses including Thermodynamics (B ME 331), HVAC (B ME 435), Engineering Dynamics (B ME 223), and Mechanical Engineering Laboratories (B ENGR 321 & B ME 334), supervising both undergraduate and graduate student projects.
