Mignon C. Duffy is a Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, affiliated with the College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Her expertise lies in care work, intersectionality, labor market inequalities, research methods, and social policy. She holds a Ph.D. from Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and completed her undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis.
Her research examines how care work intersects with gender, race, class, and other systemic inequalities. Notable works include Making Care Count and co-editing Caring on the Clock. Duffy actively collaborates with international organizations like the United Nations and World Economic Forum to bridge research and policy. She teaches courses on research methods, gender theory, and social policy, emphasizing practical engagement with often overlooked student perspectives.
Her publications span topics from care work's global comparative analysis to structural racism in healthcare employment. Duffy co-chairs the Carework Network, advocating for systemic changes in care sector policies and labor conditions.
