Mickey Adolphson is the Keidanren Professor of Japanese Studies at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (FAMES) and a Fellow of Trinity College. A Swedish historian specializing in medieval Japan, his career includes roles at Harvard University and the University of Alberta. He holds a PhD from Stanford University (1995) and earlier appointments at the University of Oklahoma (1995-1999) and Harvard (as Assistant/Associate Professor).

- Research Interests: Medieval Japanese history, economic history (especially monetization without minting), Sino-Japanese trade, warrior-monk traditions, and historical narrative construction
His current research explores 12th-century Sino-Japanese copper coin trade and its role in Japan's 13th-century monetized economy. Notable publications include *The Gates of Power* (2000), *Heian Japan* (2006), and *Lovable Losers* (2015).
Advising & Grants: Supervises PhD students in premodern/modern Japanese history, Buddhism, and international trade. Collaborates on the Azuma Kagami digitization project.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Japan Global Research Centre and contributes to interdisciplinary medieval studies initiatives.
