Michelle Parsons is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Northern Arizona University, with a focus on the anthropology of loneliness, global health, and post-Soviet societies. Her research spans ethnographic studies in Afghanistan, Russia, Ukraine, and the United States.

Research Interests: Parsons examines loneliness through cultural, economic, and health frameworks, analyzing its manifestation in pandemic contexts, post-Soviet transitions, and global health initiatives. Her work integrates social determinants of health, medication use, and care ethics.
Scientific Recognition: Achieved an h-index of 8 (Scopus) and received attention in 7 news outlets for her pandemic loneliness research.
Collaborations: Co-developed the Pandemic Journaling Project and contributed to maternal health research in Kabul's maternity hospitals.
