Michelle Medeiros

Michelle Medeiros is an Associate Professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Marquette University. Her research focuses on Latin American literary and cultural studies, gender studies, history of science, and travel writing.

• Ph.D. and MA in Latin American Literatures and Cultures from Purdue University
• BA in English and Portuguese from Pontifical Catholic University of Parana, Brazil

Her research examines intersections of science, gender, and visual culture in 19th-20th century Latin American works, particularly through women scientists and travel narratives. She teaches courses spanning Latin American literature, advanced Spanish communication, and science in cultural contexts.

Her publications include a book analyzing gender and scientific authority in travel writing, and articles on transatlantic dialogues, Brazilian fiction, and comparative literary analysis. Her work bridges historical and contemporary discourses in gender, science, and urban/natural landscapes.
