Dr. Michelle L. Arnold is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus in the School of Natural Sciences and Math. She holds a PhD in Aging Sciences and a clinical doctorate in audiology (Au.D.), with Florida licensure and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association certification. Her research focuses on health policy, aging populations, and hearing loss interventions, particularly among vulnerable groups. She leads projects on telehealth delivery, hearing aid accessibility, and cognitive health mediation through audiological interventions.
Education: PhD in Aging Sciences (University of South Florida, 2018), Au.D. in Audiology (2010), B.A. (2006), all from USF.
Research interests span hearing loss epidemiology in Hispanic/Latino communities, health policy analysis, and cross-cultural adaptation of patient education tools. Her work includes developing the Caja de Instrumentos de Pérdida Auditiva toolkit and leading the ACHIEVE randomized controlled trial to assess hearing interventions' impact on cognitive decline. She also investigates Medicaid coverage disparities and telehealth's role in audiological care.
Grants include NIH/NIDCD funding for telehealth studies and USF internal awards for health policy research. She serves as Co-PI on multiple projects and is a Fellow in her field. Teaching responsibilities include courses on hearing science, audiological rehabilitation, and research methods.
Lab affiliation: Auditory Rehabilitation and Clinical Trials laboratory. Current projects emphasize language accessibility in health materials and policy implications of hearing loss management strategies.
