Michelle Johnson serves as Associate Professor and Department Chair of Communication Studies at The College of Wooster, where she has been faculty since 1997. She concurrently holds the role of Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR), collaborating with Drew Pasteur to advise student-athletes, resolve academic-athletic scheduling conflicts, and educate faculty on NCAA/NCAC compliance.
Her academic journey includes a bachelor's degree from Northeast Missouri State University and master's/Ph.D. degrees from the University of Arizona. As a Communication Studies scholar, her research spans core disciplines including Communication, Rhetoric, Interpersonal Communication, Organizational Communication, and Media Studies.
Johnson previously served as Associate Dean for Academic Advising at APEX (the College's center for advising, planning, and experiential learning) and co-leads ARCH, Wooster's signature summer transition program for incoming students. Her FAR responsibilities include prospective student-athlete recruitment, admissions panel participation, and spearheading NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship nominations—contributing to Wooster's three top-five national rankings since 2017-18, including the #1 ranking in 2021-22 with four recipients.
