Professor Michelle Guppy is Head of the School of Rural Medicine at the University of New England (UNE), Armidale, New South Wales. She plays a central role in delivering the undergraduate Joint Medical Program in collaboration with the University of Newcastle, focusing on training future doctors for rural practice. Her academic and clinical work emphasizes health equity, rural healthcare delivery, and chronic disease management.
Her research interests span telehealth, chronic disease management (particularly diabetes and chronic kidney disease), evidence-based medicine, and medical education in rural settings. She investigates how technology can improve access to care and education for rural communities and evaluates common clinical practices through rigorous systematic reviews.
