Michelle G. Giglio

Michelle G. Giglio, PhD, is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, with significant roles in education and outreach. She serves as the Associate Director for Education & Outreach at the Institute of Genome Sciences and coordinates academic and outreach efforts there. Her career spans over two decades, transitioning from Staff Scientist at The Institute for Genomic Research to faculty positions at the University of Maryland.

Research interests include genomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics, with a focus on microbiome analysis, ontology development, and data standardization. Her work enhances FAIR data principles through ontological frameworks like the Evidence Ontology and Ontology for Microbial Phenotypes.
