Michelle Fletcher is a Research Fellow and Deputy Director of the Visual Commentary on Scripture (VCS) project at King's College London's Department of Theology & Religious Studies. She holds a PhD from King's College London, awarded the Elsevier Outstanding Thesis Prize for her work on Revelation and film theory. Her research bridges biblical studies, film analysis, and visual art, focusing on intertextuality, reception history, and critical theory. She co-chairs the SBL John's Apocalypse section and serves as Secretary of the British New Testament Society.
Her education includes doctoral studies at King's College London, with prior roles as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Kent. Her research explores ideologies in biblical interpretation, emphasizing innovative methodologies like film theory applied to biblical texts. She is currently investigating end-of-the-world narratives in cinema and the reception of Daniel 5's 'Writing on the Wall.'
Her publications span biblical exegesis, film studies, and interdisciplinary projects, including Reading Revelation as Pastiche (2017) and contributions to T&T Clark Companion to The Bible and Film. She edits the Bloomsbury Scriptural Traces series and leads the Visual Commentary on Scripture, an online platform linking biblical texts with art.
Her academic networks include roles at the Centre for Arts and the Sacred at King's (ASK), focusing on religion's intersection with the arts. Her work often highlights how biblical texts dialogue with modern media like film and visual art, emphasizing cultural reception and reinterpretation.
