Michelle Dolgos is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on synthesizing and characterizing novel materials for clean energy, piezoelectrics, and electronic applications. Key areas include developing low-toxicity synthesis methods for thin films, structural analysis of amorphous/nanocrystalline materials, and optimizing material properties for energy storage and device applications.
Education:
- B.S., Hillsdale College, 2002
- M.S., University of Tennessee, 2006
- Ph.D., Ohio State University, 2009
Research Interests: Her group explores three core areas:
- Synthesis of novel electronic materials for piezoelectric devices, batteries, and fuel cells
- Development of aqueous-based thin film processing techniques
- Atomic-level structural characterization of amorphous/nanocrystalline materials
Recent Focus: Publications from 2021-2025 highlight advancements in lead-free piezoelectrics, nanostructured materials for energy storage, and experimental/theoretical approaches to material defect analysis. Her work bridges chemistry and materials science, emphasizing both fundamental understanding and practical applications.
Affiliations: Active in STEM education initiatives and collaborates widely across academia and industry. Maintains a lab focused on electroceramic materials through her electroceramics website.
