Dr. Michelle Cain is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Data Analytics at the Cranfield Environment Centre, Cranfield University. Prior to this role, she served as a Senior Researcher at the University of Oxford and Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Cambridge. Her career spans institutions including the University of Reading (PhD) and collaborations with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Her research focuses on greenhouse gases, particularly methane and nitrous oxide in agricultural systems, with emphasis on climate policy metrics and Paris Agreement compliance. She has led field campaigns in the Arctic and Antarctic Peninsula, measuring emissions from wetlands, marine algae, and gas rigs.
Her recent UKRI-funded projects include Reframing non-CO2 mitigation approaches, OpenGHG, and FixOurFood. She co-chairs the Royal Meteorological Society's Science Engagement Committee and serves on the FAO Technical Advisory Group on Methane.
