Michelle C. Boling is a Professor and Associate Dean at the Brooks College of Health, University of North Florida (UNF). She specializes in the prevention and long-term consequences of patellofemoral pain, including osteoarthritis, with a focus on biomechanics, athletic training, and rehabilitation strategies.
- Education: Ph.D. in Human Movement Science (Biomechanics) from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, M.S. and B.S. in Kinesiology and Exercise Science (Athletic Training) from the University of Kentucky and UNC-Chapel Hill.
Research Interests: Dr. Boling’s work investigates biomechanical risk factors for knee injuries, gender-specific epidemiology of patellofemoral pain, serum biomarkers for cartilage turnover, and strength training rehabilitation incorporating power exercises. Her studies bridge clinical outcomes with orthopedic research in athletic and military populations.
Grants & Projects: She leads active projects such as the Orthopedic Research Program (2022–present) and the Dean's Research Professorship (2014–present), focusing on patellofemoral pain and osteoarthritis. She has collaborated on studies analyzing biomechanical risks in athletes and gender-specific pain processing differences.
Data & Collaboration: Dr. Boling contributes to datasets in pain management and biomechanics, including publicly available collections on figshare. Her research appears in peer-reviewed journals like BMJ Military Health, Journal of Athletic Training, and BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders.
