Michele Lanza is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Informatics of Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Lugano, and serves as Director of the Software Institute he founded in 2017. He co-founded the Faculty of Informatics at USI in 2004 as an Assistant Professor and held leadership roles including Dean and Vice-Rector.
- PhD in Software Engineering from University of Bern (2003)
- Co-founded REVEAL research group (2004)
His research focuses on software visualization, evolution, and analytics, with a notable contribution through the book Object-Oriented Metrics in Practice. His work bridges theoretical software engineering with practical applications in software analytics and visualization.
Scientific awards include:
- European Ernst Denert Award for best PhD thesis in software engineering
- Credit Suisse Awards for best teaching (2007, 2009)
- 3 Most Influential Paper Awards
- Multiple Best/Distinguished Paper Awards
Lanza has graduated 13 PhD students and actively contributes to scientific communities as President of CHOOSE (Swiss Object-Oriented Software Engineering society), with extensive program committee service and leadership roles in conferences like ICSM, MSR, VISSOFT, and IWPSE.
