Dr. Michele Grigolo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Social and Political Sciences at Nottingham Trent University's School of Social Sciences. He specializes in political and urban sociology, with a focus on human rights, cities, and urban governance. His roles include coordinating study exchanges and contributing to the Research Ethics Committee. He co-leads the Research Group Cities and Community, exploring human rights in urban contexts.
Grigolo holds a PhD from the European University Institute and prior experience as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Coimbra’s Centre for Social Studies. His research bridges theoretical and empirical work on human rights cities, examining how local governments implement rights-based policies. Notable projects include a study on children’s right to clothing in Nottingham with Sharewear Clothing Scheme, and his monograph The Human Rights City (2019).
He advises doctoral candidates on urban and political sociology topics and collaborates with international organizations like the European Parliament and Amnesty International. External activities include co-convening the British Sociological Association's Sociology of Human Rights Study Group and organizing the 2025 European Sociological Association conference on social justice at NTU.
His teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate sociology courses, including modules on political sociology, urban sociology, and public sociology. Research interests also encompass anti-discrimination policies, global urban justice, and the intersection of sexuality with human rights frameworks.
