Michele D. Lewis

Dr. Michele D. Lewis is a board-certified gastroenterologist and Associate Professor at Mayo Clinic's College of Medicine and Science. She serves as Associate Dean of Admissions for the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine - Florida campus and directs the Pancreas Clinic and Cystic Fibrosis Clinic. Her clinical expertise includes pancreatic diseases, genetic disorders of the pancreas, and adult cystic fibrosis management.

Education includes an MD from Medical University of South Carolina (1993), residency at University of Florida, fellowship in Gastroenterology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and an MMSc from Harvard Medical School (2000). Her research focuses on pancreatic disorders, particularly genetic aspects of pancreatitis and cystic fibrosis-related complications.

Publications contribute to understanding pancreatitis genetics, complications, and novel treatment approaches. Recent articles examine genetic factors in chronic pain among pancreatitis patients and management of uncommon gastrointestinal complications. Research conducted through the North American Pancreatitis Study (NAPS) consortium has clarified disease progression patterns from acute to chronic pancreatitis.

Awards recognize excellence in medical education, including the Mayo Clinic Distinguished Educator Award (2018) and multiple Internal Medicine Residency Teaching Awards. She serves on national committees including the American Gastroenterological Association Council and chairs institutional recruitment for Mayo Clinic's medical school.
