Michelacakis Nickolas is a Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus. He holds a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Athens, an M.Sc. in Algebraic Topology from Purdue University, and a Ph.D. in Algebraic Geometry from University College London. His research interests span Mathematical Economics, Spatial Competition, Game Theory, and areas of pure mathematics like Algebraic Geometry and Topology.
Before joining the University of Piraeus, he held visiting positions at institutions including the Fourier Institute (France), the Mathematics Research Institute (Holland), the University of Crete, the University of Cyprus, and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His work has been funded by organizations such as the Onassis Foundation, the SERC UK, University College London, and the European Union.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on Mathematics I & II, Mathematical Economics, and Dynamic Systems for the Department of Informatics. His recent research focuses on spatial competition models, taxation effects, and strategic delegation in economic frameworks.
Office hours for the academic year 2024-2025 are Fridays 12:00-14:00 (Fall) and Wednesdays 12:00-14:00 (Spring).
