Micchela Menconi is a Lecturer at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the School of Arch, Tech and Eng Design for Circular Cities and Regions (DCCR) and the Built Environment, Architecture and Construction (BEACON) Research Excellence Group. She holds a PhD in Energy Retrofit of Heritage Dwellings from the University of Brighton and a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Florence.
Her research focuses on sustainable retrofitting of traditional and listed buildings, energy performance optimization, and heritage conservation. Key areas include mechanical/thermal properties of traditional construction materials, low-risk retrofit measures, and energy simulation strategies for historic dwellings. She also explores architectural education, particularly student feedback literacy.
Her work integrates mixed methodologies combining technical analysis with heritage preservation principles. Collaborations involve researchers like Dr. Painting and Dr. Piroozfar. Recent studies address carbon savings in 19th-century listed buildings and experimental analysis of rubble stone construction in the UK.
Her research has been published in journals like International Journal of Building Pathology and Adaptation and Journal of Building Engineering, with peer-reviewed conference contributions on architectural technology pedagogy and heritage building strategies.
