Michela Massimi is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. She joined Edinburgh in 2012 after seven years at University College London. Her research focuses on the philosophy of science, history of philosophy, and Kantian thought. She holds a PhD from the London School of Economics and was a Junior Research Fellow at Girton College, Cambridge (2002–2005).
Massimi’s work bridges historical and philosophical analysis of scientific principles, notably her study of Pauli’s Exclusion Principle. She has authored and edited influential books, such as Perspectival Realism (2022) and Kant and the Laws of Nature (2017). She has held leadership roles, including Co-Editor in Chief of The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science (2011–2016) and is currently President-Elect of the Philosophy of Science Association (2023–2024).
Her honors include the Royal Society Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar Medal (2017), and fellowships from the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Royal Astronomical Society, and Academia Europaea. She has led major grants, including an ERC Consolidator Grant (€1.6M, 2016–2021) and a Leverhulme Trust International Network (2012–2015).
