Michel A. Robe

Michel A. Robe is a Full Professor of Finance and holds the Patricia A. and George W. Wellde, Jr. Distinguished Chair in Finance at the Robins School of Business, University of Richmond. Previously, he was the Clearing Corporation Foundation Endowed Professor in Derivatives Trading at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research focuses on commodity price volatility, derivatives markets microstructure, financialization of commodities, and investor protection. He advises major regulatory bodies like the CFTC, SEC, and DoE, and has consulted for organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank.

Dr. Robe earned his M.S. in Finance and Ph.D. in Financial Economics from Carnegie Mellon University. He has taught at the University of Miami, McGill University, and American University. His work appears in top journals including the Journal of Financial Economics and Energy Journal.

He served as a Senior Economist at the CFTC during market crises in 2006, 2008, and 2009. His current research explores the political economy of commodity markets and regulatory frameworks for derivatives.
