Prof. Michal Linial is a Professor at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, affiliated with the Department of Biological Chemistry and Neuroscience & Computational Biology. Her research focuses on synaptic biology, miRNA regulation, proteomics, and computational biology. She leads a lab conducting interdisciplinary studies combining genomics and proteomics to understand disease mechanisms and molecular functions. Notable contributions include work on cancer genomics, viral evolution, and the role of miRNAs in cellular processes. Recognized as an ICSB 2016 Fellow, her lab collaborates with large-scale databases like TCGA and SFARI. Students under her supervision include Nadav Brandes (PhD) and Roni Rasnic (current).
Research interests span bioinformatics methods for protein sequence analysis, viral co-evolution, and miRNA dynamics in health/disease. Her lab’s recent projects explore ER stress responses, microglia in aging brains, and miRNA nuclear localization. Collaborations involve computational tools like ProteinBERT and proteome-wide association studies (PWAS).
